The Director of Finance and Accounting for Custer County
The Director of Finance & Accounting position, reporting to the Board of County Commissioners, is a full-time, exempt role with primary responsibilities involving the management and operation of the Finance Department. Adult Protection / Child Welfare Case Worker
Custer County is accepting applications for the Adult Protection/Child Welfare Case Worker position. The primary responsibilities of this role include but not limited to:
Adult Protection Duties:

Develop and implement case plans to address clients’ physical, mental, financial, social, and behavioral needs while promoting safety.

Maintain knowledge of available community resources and provide this information to clients and customers.

Handles crisis intervention, family mediation, and coordination of services and resources.
Child Welfare Duties:
-
Conduct community investigations in response to reports of child abuse, neglect, or significant family disruptions involving youth in conflict or those adjudicated as delinquents, and make recommendations to the Child Welfare Manager.

Develop plans to ensure the safety of children, strengthen families, and promote permanency for children, and submit these plans for supervisor approval.

Respond 24/7 to reports of abuse or neglect and provide crisis intervention, following the caseworker’s on-call schedule and addressing other departmental emergencies as needed.
Additionally, the role involves investigating allegations of mistreatment against at-risk adults 18 and older. Responsibilities include ongoing case management, coordinating resources with community providers, and 24-hour on-call duties shared with other caseworkers. Key tasks include conducting casework for Adult Protective Services, which involves assessments, referrals, and managing cases for disabled and elderly adults at risk of abuse, neglect, or exploitation.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of the theories and principles of casework practice, including adult protection and child protection, as well as theories related to child development, parenting, and attachment.

Familiarity with the Colorado Children’s Code

Understanding of Colorado Adult Protection laws and statutes

Ability to communicate and collaborate with professionals and clients from diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds.

Minimum Education/Experience Required:
Required: Bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, sociology, guidance, or counseling.
Preferred qualifications include one year of post-graduation experience in adult protective case work or two years of post-graduation experience developing treatment plans with families, working with abused or neglected children, or supporting children in the mental health or juvenile justice systems.
Special Requirements:
Successful completion of CDHS-mandated annual training required to maintain employment.
License or Certification Required:
A current driver’s license as travel may be required, as well as a background check.
Elements of Contact:
Personal contact with members of the public is familiar. Some situations may require exchanging documents, money, personal property, etc. Face-to-face verbal communication between members and individuals is often necessary. Contact with blood, body fluids, or other medical hazards is rare for members. However, members should have sufficient time to take precautionary and protective measures when necessary.

Custer County Extension Office Administrative Assistant/4-H Coordinator
Custer County is currently accepting applications for the position of Extension Office
Administrator/4-H Coordinator. This full-time role involves providing excellent customer service
to county residents, 4-H members, parents, and volunteers, as well as delivering educational
programming alongside the traditional 4-H program.
Key responsibilities include developing and implementing a comprehensive volunteer
recruitment and retention program. The Coordinator will also provide administrative support to
the Extension Director and Fair Board by coordinating and facilitating meetings while
maintaining, improving, and creating processes and timelines to enhance the overall experience
of the Custer County Fair for our youth and families.
Additionally, the Coordinator will manage daily office functions and offer resources and referrals
to the public as requested. Maintaining financial records and ensuring compliance with Custer
County and the CSU Office of Extension policies are also essential duties of this position.
Applicants should have basic knowledge of office equipment and various software programs
required, and knowledge of and experience with 4-H is preferred.

Part-Time Assistant Veterans Service Officer
Custer County is currently accepting applications for the position of Part-Time Assistant
Veterans Service Officer. The main responsibilities of this role include:
- Assisting the Veterans Service Officer (VSO) by educating and guiding veterans in
accessing available resources.
- Conducting initial intake interviews for veterans and their families.
- Creating web-based profiles for veterans.
- Establishing Power of Attorney.
- Responding to incoming calls and texts.
- Scheduling appointments.
- Preparing and submitting claims on a limited basis.
Additionally, you will be expected to cultivate and maintain relationships with community
partners and actively participate in community events. The ideal candidate should have
strong public speaking skills and effective communication abilities, as outreach is vital for
informing veterans and their families about potential benefits and compensation. It is
essential to meet and maintain all accreditation requirements for a VSO as outlined in
the Colorado Division of Veterans Affairs manual (effective August 2024).
• Be a Colorado Resident
• Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., social work, counseling, public
administration) is preferred but not required.
• Have served in the United States Army, Air Force, Navy, Marine Corps, Space
Force, Coast Guard, or any auxiliary branch thereof, and have been honorably
discharged therefrom, or be a discharged LGBT veteran per C.R.S. 28-5-103, or
be an officer released from active duty with the armed forces and placed on
inactive duty.
• Be a paid county employee, working for it for not less than 1,000 hours annually.
• Obtain and maintain VA accreditation with the Colorado Division of Veterans
Affairs through the VA's Office of General Counsel.
