About the Sheriff's Office

The Custer County Sheriff's Office is dedicated to maintaining law and order, protecting life and property, and ensuring the safety and security of all residents and visitors in Custer County. Under the leadership of Sheriff Lloyd "Rich" Smith, our office operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to provide essential law enforcement services to our community.

As an elected official, the Sheriff serves as the chief law enforcement officer for Custer County, with responsibilities that extend beyond traditional policing to include courthouse security, civil process service, and emergency management coordination.
