Road & Bridge Equipment Operator
Under general supervision of the Road Boss &/or Assistant Road Boss. Operate a variety of heavy and light equipment to perform construction and maintenance of the County roads and bridges. Operate with considerable independence requiring sound judgment and initiative. Position is subject to involuntary overtime and/or compensation time in addition to the normal 40-hour work week for events and snow removal or emergency situations.

- Operate, service, and maintain the following types of road equipment: Road Grader, dozer, front-end loader, backhoe, water truck, dump truck, impact roller, street broom, snow plow truck, lowboy, chip spreader, belly dump.
- Construct, maintain, pave and repair roads and bridges.
- Clear and mow right-of-way.
- Maintain road signs.
- Plow snow from bus routes, designated primary arteries, and secondary roads as directed to ensure that roads are safe and passable; and sand roads as appropriate. Make signage and safety recommendations to the appropriate supervisor to identify hazards and prevent accidents.
- Grade gravel roads to maintain safe conditions.
- Haul surface materials by truck and spread on road surfaces.
- Install and clean culverts, including steaming open in cold weather.
- Repair potholes with asphalt.
- Chip and seal roads for easier maintenance.
- Maintain and repair asphalt road surfaces.
- Trim trees and brush when necessary for proper visibility.
- Repair and replace road signs.
- Service and maintain the assigned machine/machinery.
- Clean and repair the shop.
- Assist with traffic control, including flagging, and detouring as assigned.
- Cattle guard cleaning and installation.
- Assist in welding and torch work.
- Maintain accurate and complete records of machinery material usage, and fuel usage.
- Accurately complete all pertinent paperwork relating to job function such as, but not limited to, work orders, requisitions and timesheets.
$18.98 – $27.51/hr depending on qualifications and experience.

Assistant, Veterans Service Officer (VSO)
As the Assistant Veterans Service Officer (VSO), your primary responsibilities will encompass supporting the VSO in the education and guidance of veterans in navigating available resources. Duties will include conducting initial intakes for veterans and their families, creating web-based profiles, establishing Power of Attorney, responding to incoming calls and texts, and scheduling appointments. You will also be expected to prepare and submit claims on a limited basis as part of your role. Additionally, you must cultivate and maintain relationships with community partners and actively participate in community events. The ideal candidate should possess strong public speaking skills and practical communication abilities, as outreach is essential in informing veterans and their families about potential benefits and compensation. You must meet and maintain all accreditation requirements for a VSO as outlined in the Colorado Division of Veterans Affairs manual
(August 2024).

• Provide info1mation and guidance on benefits such as disability compensation, healthcare, education, and housing programs.
• Assist clients in completing application forms and gathering the necessary documentation.

• Prepare and submit claims for veterans' benefits to the relevant government agencies.
• Monitor the progress of these claims, follow up with the agencies, and ensure they are processed promptly.

The Landfill Equipment Operator assists with the daily operation, maintenance, and upkeep of the Custer County Landfill in compliance with the Colorado Department of Public Health & Environment (CDPHE) regulations and the county’s Revised Engineering & Operations Report, in accordance with Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment Solid Waste Regulations, 6 CCR 1007-2. Work involves operating heavy equipment, inspecting incoming loads, maintaining records, performing site maintenance, and ensuring safe and compliant landfill operations.

- Operate landfill heavy equipment such as loaders, dozers, compactors, excavators, dump trucks, track hoes, and other equipment used in grading, excavating, covering, and compacting waste.
- Monitor landfill site conditions to identify safety hazards, instability, or environmental concerns.
- Screen, measure, classify, and price incoming solid-waste loads; maintain accurate daily records of volumes, waste types, and fees collected.
- Safeguard and account for all landfill revenue.
- Maintain cleanliness, organization, and a professional appearance of the landfill property and public areas, including office and restroom.
- Inspect equipment daily; perform basic maintenance, lubrication, and adjustments.
- Follow CDPHE solid-waste regulations, local requirements, and all applicable safety standards for landfill operations.
- Use judgment and initiative to improve the landfill’s efficiency, safety, and customer service.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the Landfill Director or, in their absence, the County Commissioners.

The GIS Technician supports the County’s geospatial operations by collecting, maintaining, and analyzing geographic data. This position works closely with the IT/GIS Coordinator to produce high-quality maps, maintain spatial databases, and ensure accurate data for county departments including Planning & Zoning, Assessor, Office of Emergency Management, Sheriff, Road & Bridge and others. Communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing.
Work is performed primarily in an office setting but includes regular field assignments to verify survey markers, collect GPS data, and reconcile plats and documents provided by licensed surveyors and other authoritative sources.

- Create and maintain accurate address points for the County’s 911 system and disaster response mapping.
- Coordinate updates to the Master Street Address Guide (MSAG) with emergency dispatch in accordance with state guidelines.
- Ensure data integrity across CAD systems used for emergency dispatching and planning.
- Produce and maintain GIS maps for emergency management, including evacuation zones, incident tracking, and situational awareness tools.
- Collect, create, and update geospatial data layers such as roads, parcels, utilities, and zoning information.
- Conduct field verification using GPS equipment to validate roadway alignments, parcel boundaries, and survey control points.
