Custer County Recycles

OUR MISSION STATEMENT:
Custer County Recycles primary mission is to extend the limited life of the County landfill by providing waste diversion and recovery through recycling services.  This includes the operation of a sustainable Custer County-owned and operated material recovery facility (MRF).

Custer County Recycles main facility is located next to the landfill at 2250 CR 328 (Rosita Road) south of Westcliffe.

Accepted Materials

Custer County Recycles accepts ONLY the following materials:

  • Cardboard: Corrugated only - empty & flatten.
  • Mixed Paper: Includes copy paper, loose (open) mail, magazines and catalogs (tape, labels, and plastic windows OK), paper board (cereal/soda boxes), brown paper grocery bags and newspaper. NO shredded paper, paper clips, or metal binders.
  • Steel Cans: Clean & empty (labels OK). NO aerosol cans. NO steel containers that contained toxic chemicals.
  • Aluminum Cans: Labels OK. NO aerosol cans. NO metal containers that contained toxic chemicals.

Recycling Guidelines

Please follow these guidelines:

  • Deposit clean, loose material in to the correct receiving window (do not toss material in plastic bags).
  • Do not contaminate the recycling by including items that are not accepted, such as: plastic bags, plastic containers, wax-coated dairy containers, styrofoam, shredded paper, glass, or scrap metal.
  • Scrap metal: All scrap metal should be placed in the roll-off next to the trash drop-off at the landfill. Scrap metal can destroy recycling equipment.
